The Gospel
The gospel is the good news, the good tidings of salvation through Jesus Christ. Note: It is not a gospel, or one of many gospels, but the gospel. “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel” (I Corinthians 9:16).
Why did Paul take his responsibility so seriously? The gospel is God’s power to save. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16). The gospel is the only message that needs to be preached. To refuse to believe and obey the gospel means that one is lost in sin. “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ” (II Thessalonians 1:8). Perhaps a greater question would be, have you obeyed the gospel or a gospel that has been perverted by man?
